After studying art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Hong Soun(b.1959) has continued to work based in Seoul and Europe. Hong has been attracting attention for his experimental and original work in various media and genres and has been active as a leader in postmodernism. He has consistently worked with the philosophical proposition that various elements surrounding the world, such as politics, economy, and culture, are part and whole.

 

His major selected solo exhibitions include 《Over there》(CR Collective, Seoul, Korea, 2023) and 《Sidescape – Disaster, Family》(Savina Museum, Seoul, Korea, 2022). Major selected group exhibitions are 《APRICITY》(FRIEZE LONDON, NO.9 Cork Street, London, UK, 2024), 《Instead of a Result, a Process》(M5 Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2023) and 《My Your Memory》(MMCA Seoul, Seoul, Korea, 2022). He was awarded the 1st Hoban Art Prize in 2023, the 17th Lee In-sung Art Prize in 2016, and the 2015 Jeon Hyuk-rim Art Prize. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi-do Museum of Art, Hoam Museum of Art, École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and the Supreme Court.
